If clicking the article title leads to Christian forgiveness does not replace consequences for actions. So many Christians get this wrong. To simply say, "I forgive you" and now everything continues without consequence is not biblical at all. God Himself "will by no means clear [the guilty]" (Exodus 34:7). Jesus said, "Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Matthew 4:17). Repent is a ceasing from the sin. And Zacchaeus serves as an example of activity that happens after true repentance. "And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore [him] fourfold" (Luke 19:8). If a person robs a bank and asks for forgiveness, the robber does not get to keep the money. A victim that can come to forgiveness does not prevent the rapist from facing charges. Forgiveness and justice are not opposites but steps in the process of righting the wrong. Forgiveness does not replace justice but justice follows forgiveness, if forgiveness occurs. The victim may or may not offer forgiveness. In either case, even God exercises justice.
