Exodus 20:16 says, "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour." There are no such things as "white lies". As soon as the truth is distorted, it is mixed with the darkness of sin. Gray is a better color describing a mixture of truth and error, which still breaks the commandments. Besides, in looking over the list, it appears that bragging is the root cause of the lies, which is a type of pride, and "Pride [goeth] before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall" (Proverbs 16:18).
