The article describes how outward appearance is most important, especially to girls and women, but that there is evidence that it begins as early as three years old. This is sad as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and God does not make junk. He makes variety. We are even told, "Whose adorning let it not be that outward [adorning] of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But [let it be] the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, [even the ornament] of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price" (1 Peter 3:3-4). Though this is more worried about the attire, it still applies because the focus is on outward appearance. And the thought is that if a person can put on glitter, be controlled by fashion, etc., that those are signs of beauty. The real sign of beauty is who the person is, which mostly is neglected through selfish attitudes.
